Beginning Thursday, Nov. 17, the Bourne Bridge will be reduced to one-lane traffic for ongoing steel repairs.

Traffic delays will be likely during the morning and afternoon peak travel periods each day, according to the Corps of Engineers. Traffic control will be in place for the duration of the repairs.

The Bourne Bridge will be fully open to two lanes of traffic in each direction during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, from Wednesday, Nov. 23 at noon through Monday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.

Message boards and fixed signs around the bridge will keep motorist apprised of the Corps of Engineers’ efforts.

The $8.5 million repair project involves the removal and replacement of structural steel secondary members, the strengthening of existing structural steel members, the replacement of structural fasteners, the removal of selected existing welds and the strengthening of selected gusset plates.
