Chorus Is Community Event

Back in 1996, yes that is now a long time ago, the Island Community Chorus sounded its first note. Since that time the choral group, led by director Peter Boak, has performed year-round on the Island. The group has gained a loyal following and by staying true to its roots as a group open to anyone with no auditions required, it has remained an Island institution.

No auditions is not to say it lacks talent in any way, whatsoever. The Island is filled with marvelous singers; they lurk behind bank teller windows, serve fried fish sandwiches all summer long, bag your groceries, plant your flowers, say hello (in tune) at the post office, ferry line, and from porches galore.

And this weekend these neighbors take the stage at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown to perform their annual holiday concert. Again, this is an impressive professional arrangement. The choir of more than 120 voices has been rehearsing every week since early September. As always it is an event not to be missed.

The concert takes place on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $15 at the door; no advance tickets are sold.
