Lighthouse Santa

Sara Hoadland Hunter and Julia Miner, the writer and illustrator team behind The Lighthouse Santa will give a reading at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m.

The children’s book focuses on Kate, who lives at the Great Point Lighthouse on Nantucket. Her life is full of stormy seas and even some shipwrecks, but it is also a lonely life with only her mother, father and brother Sam to keep her company. And then on Christmas Eve a blizzard threatens to ruin the celebration and the annual visit from the Lighthouse Santa.

The book is based on the real life Christmas flights of Edward Rowe Snow, a hero to lighthouse children for almost fifty years. In this, their first collaboration since the success of their award-winning picture book The Unbreakable Code, Ms. Hunter and Ms. Miner shed a magical light on a little-known episode of history.
