Please Adopt Us

All the beautiful cats at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are on their best behavior, hoping to find new homes for the holiday. We hope so too, and we have some great ones:

Chloe, the brindle and black cat who has really come out of her shell; Butter, our other brindle and white cat who is so friendly and pretty; Annabelle, a black and white love; Ceilia, the shelter mascot who sits on the desk and greets everyone as they come through the door; Agatha, our very friendly gray and white kitty who just loves people; Notorious, our big black clown who loves other cats; Kitty Randolph, the perfect gray striped tiger tabby cat who also loves other cats and people; and Westie and Deacon, two handsome and sweet ginger tiger tabbies.

The shelter has a short wish list this week — if anyone has a comfortable wooden rocking chair that they would like to donate, we would be thrilled to have it, so our volunteers and prospective adopters can sit in our cat room and cuddle each cat and make them feel wanted and loved. We can arrange to have the chair picked up.

Thanks to all who turned out to participate in the shelter’s parade float last Saturday. Edgartown animal control officer Barbara Prada’s big, beautiful white poodle was the hit of the parade, dressed as an elf. She must have spent hours at the groomer getting ready because she was just gorgeous!

The shelter has a small gift section for those who need a last-minute gift for the animal lover on your list. We have Linda Jean’s cookbook, two sweet books by Anna Lowell Tomlin about a Vineyard cat as told by the cat himself, animal purses, place mats of Edgartown and leashes and collars for cats and dogs. Stop by and browse and check out our wonderful animals available for adoption.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
