The Oak Bluffs Police Department welcomed its newest full-time officer on Tuesday, Dec. 20 when Derek Back took the oath of office in front of family, colleagues and friends.

Mr. Back was born and raised in Plymouth. He attended Plymouth South High School and Bridgewater State College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management in 2009. He was graduated form the Plymouth regional police academy in 2010. Mr. Back worked briefly for the Tisbury Police Department as a special police officer, and has served as a special police officer for the Oak Bluffs Police Department since April.

Mr. Back’s swearing-in fills the vacancy left by Sergeant George Fisher, who retired in June.
