Tonight the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society is screening The Way at the Capawock Theatre in Vineyerd Haven.

The Way is a family affair of sorts; it was written and directed by Emilio Estevez and stars his father, Martin Sheen, and Emilio himself. The film tells the story of a father who comes to France to collect the remains of his adult son killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. Rather than return home, the father decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son’s desire to finish the journey.

The film was shot entirely in Spain and France along the actual Camino de Santiago. And although starring some bona fide Hollywood royalty, it has flown under the radar in order to create a contemplative film to be savored slowly, rather than some box office bonanza.

The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $8 and $5 for film society members at the door only.
