Films and Feast

This Saturday, Jan 7, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival throws open the doors of the Chilmark Community Center for another night of films and food. At 5 p.m. there is a program of short films for kids and at 6:30 p.m. Chris Fischer takes the stage with a farm fresh meal. Todd Christy provides his Chilmark Coffee and Amy Miller brings on the sweet treats.

At 7:30 the feature film The Hedgehog begins. This movie follows a highly articulate but deeply bored 11-year-old Parisian girl who has decided to kill herself on her 12th birthday. Okay, that may sound like a real downer but she doesn’t go through with it. And along the way to her appointment with death she, and the audience, learn a lot about life and how pervasive a pessimistic attitude can be. The film has won audience awards at the Seattle International, Palm Springs International, Washington DC International, and Cairo International Film Festivals.

With help from The Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council the ticket prices remain affordable. The kid’s films are free for MVFF members, and $5 for nonmembers. Meals are $5 for kids and $10 for adults and The Hedgehog is $6 for members and $12 for nonmembers.
