Island resident and rock photographer Jim Shive takes the microphone today, April 23, as guest deejay on Sirius XM’s E Street Radio broadcast. The show airs at 4 p.m. and again tomorrow at 8 a.m.

Mr. Shive began his photography career back in the 1970s while still a student at Keane University in New Jersey. He documented the early days of many a rock legend, but it was Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band that he caught most often, taking hundreds of pictures for numerous magazines and newspapers. His seminal picture of Clarence Clemons was featured by Rolling Stone in its memorial issue to the Big Man.

During the radio broadcast, Mr. Shive will share stories about his days photographing Bruce, the pictures themselves, and what it was like to have the best seat in the house, the photo pit, in the early days of rock and roll.

Mr. Shive’s pictures can be seen at shivearchive.com.
