Rose Treat Celebration

No one can get enough of the Vineyard. But perhaps no one had a greater talent for prolonging her Island stay than the late Rose Treat. She died on November 2, 2011 in her Sengekontacket home, just two weeks shy of turning 103 years old.

On Saturday, June 9, the community will gather at The Polly Hill Arboretum at 11 a.m. for a celebration of the life of Rose Treat. There will be music and stories and a special Treat treat – Rose’s Seaweed Collages that she created over the past 60 years. As an artist and a naturalist, Rose created a type of living beauty in her artwork — an appropriate metaphor for the artist herself. Rose was also a mushroom expert, leading countless mushroom walks and feasts during her lifetime.

Anyone with a collage who would like to contribute to the one-day exhibit should bring their artwork to the Arboretum at 10 a.m. Collages will be returned after the event.
