Chilmark enjoyed a sunny weekend that I am sure made the wedding parties around town even more enjoyable. We send congratulations to Owen Maloney and Erica Finger, who were married last Saturday at the Allen Farm overlooking Chilmark Pond and the ocean. The couple met at the farm and attended the University of Massachusetts together. Owen is the son of John and Kristin Maloney of Chilmark and Erica is the daughter of Paul and Leslie Finger of Andover. The couple plans to make their home in Chilmark.

Newlyweds Dan and Shari Askow of Willmette, Ill. enjoyed a weekend visit with Dan’s sister, Cathy Thompson. While here, the couple visited with their extended Kuh family relatives.

If you are reading this today, Friday, June 15, you are in time to attend the Windemere annual fundraising auction at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury tonight. There will be live and silent auctions from 6 to 8 p.m. to raise funds for their activities programs. The items donated are varied, and a good time should be had by all!

The July edition of the magazine, Martha Stewart Living, has a well-illustrated article about Chilmark’s Chris Fischer and his Beetlebung Farm. The Chilmark library has copies of the magazine. Beetlebung Farm is at Beetlebung corner across from town hall. It is a happening place worth checking out.

The Chilmark Community Church will conduct their annual blessing of the fleet at Menemsha on Sunday, June 17, at 9 a.m. All are welcome and children are especially invited. By tradition, the event is casual and community-oriented.

The church will begin Tuesday lobster roll sales on June 19. Lobster rolls will be sold from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

The annual, twice-a-week flea market for the benefit of the Chilmark Community Church will begin on Saturday, June 27, at the Jenkinson field on North Road. The sales will continue on Wednesdays and Saturdays until Labor Day.

Stephen Russell is busy installing the new pipe organ at the Chilmark Community Church this week. It is an exciting time for the parishioners, and the music will appeal to the community at large.

Graydon and Mary McCormick of North Andover are at the family summer home on Chowder Kettle lane. Those of us with long memories will note that Mary is the daughter of the late James Arenson of New York city and Menemsha. The McCormick family will gather in Menemsha to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Graydon and Mary on June 22. Daughter Kate of Boston and son Seth and his family of Cullowhee, N. C. will be here.

James and Roberta Morgan enjoyed a family weekend of celebration as their granddaughter, Lily Morgan, graduated from the regional high school. She will be attending the University of Massachusetts in the fall. She is the daughter of James and Diane Morgan of North road.

The Yard is opening for another season, celebrating the art of dancing. The first program will be the Bessie Schonberg Mentorship Residency Performances on June 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. at the Patricia N. Nanon Theatre on Middle road. They have a busy schedule of performances throughout the summer.

Jack Huberman is here from Santa Fe for a June vacation. His wife, Nina, will join him next week.

Welcome to Conrad and Jane Neumann of Durham, N.C. and Chilmark. They arrived on June 12 in plenty of time for Jane to prepare her treasures for sale at the first Antique Show at the Grange Hall on June 26.

The Chilmark library is now offering programs to the public at no charge on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On June 27 at 5:30 p.m. Holly Bellebuono will discuss her new book, The Essential Herbal for Natural Health. She is an herbalist and a women’s holistic coach.

June 28 at 5 p.m. Dr. Elizabeth Fairchild of the University of New Hampshire and Brett Stearns of Aquinnah will discuss the Flounder Stock Enhancement Program.

Zee Gamson of the Chilmark Democrats sends word that Elizabeth Warren, candidate for the Senate, will speak at the Whaling Church in Edgartown on July 1 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The public is invited.

Thomas Huber and Lia Kahler are at their summer home on Molly’s Way for the season. Thomas is currently in Germany enjoying two reunions: one with his sisters and also a class reunion.
