Oak Bluffs Harbor Festival, Faeries Too

Harbors are for boats, right? Not necessarily. This Saturday, Oak Bluffs Harbor will be packed with food, faeries, and fireworks.

The annual Harbor Festival, celebrating the summer solstice and approaching season, starts with a stretch of over 40 vendors selling arts, crafts, antiques and food. There will also be non-profits talking about their missions and plenty of live music.

The Harbor Festival was visited by faeries last year, and word has it they are back again this year as part of the Midsummer Faerie Festival held in Washington Park in front of the Ocean View. There will be music, marionettes, and plenty of activities for children. Featured guests include Bradigan, Margot Datz, Faebotica, Jenna Greene, Jacki Smith of Coventry Creations and The Misfits of Avalon. The Faerie Festival concludes with a faerie parade, and children should come dressed in costume to join.

The day doesn’t end with the flying of the faeries, either. Circuit avenue closes to car traffic from 5 to 11 p.m. to allow for outdoor dining and more outdoor live music.

Wait, there’s more (this is the longest day of the year we’re talking about). The celebration ends with firework over the harbor, starting at dark.
