The Holmes Hole Sailing Association commenced its Thursday Evening series of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven Harbor on June 21 with a 6:00 p.m.

With a moderate west southwest wind of 8-10 knots, 13 boats posted for the start at red nun 6 outside of the Vineyard Haven breakwater. The fleet sailed a broad reach on the port tack to west chop, jibed onto starboard for a reach to East Chop, and sailed close hauled with one or two tacks to the finish line.

Finishing first was Jim Pringle in the Sailmaster, Myfanwy. In second was Mo Flam in the Alerion 28, Penelope. In third was Roger Becker in the C&C 24, Gloria.

The summer racing series continued with a two Harbor Races on June 24. Finishing first in the A division was Stephen Besse in the J-120, Apres. In second was Andy Berry in the Cal 33, Isobar. In third was Peter Goodale in the Kirby 25, Stormalong II.

The 2:00 p.m. start saw sun and a little more wind. Eleven boats posted and the race committee called for the same triangular course from nun 6.

Finishing first in the A division was Roger Becker in the C&C 24, Gloria. In second was Mo Flam in the Alerion 28, Penelope. Third was Peter Goodale in the Kirby 25, Stormalong II.

In the B division, first was Bow Van Riper in the Vineyard 15, Tyche. Second was Stuart Halpert in the Ensign, Providence. Third were John and Lisa Stout in the Gannon and Benjamin sloop, Isabella.
