Great music accompanies great pizza when singer/songwriter Scott Kirby comes to the Vineyard to play at Flatbread Pizza on July 5 and 6, both shows beginning at 9 p.m.

Mr. Kirby picked up his first guitar at age 12 and taught himself how to play. Around the same time, he also taught himself how to handle a boat and catch fish on outings with a childhood friend. Love of music and sea has continued to define Mr. Kirby ever since. He played in multiple bands as a teenager and throughout his twenties, but didn’t start his a career as a solo artist until he was 35 and living in Key West, Florida,. He had given up a career as a political consultant, and cold winters so he could return to guitar playing after an eight-year hiatus.

Mr. Kirby released his first studio album in 1993, and has released five more since then. His music blends storytelling and acoustic rock, and much of it has ocean-inspired lyrics.

And on Thursday and Friday night his music comes with pepperoni and sausage.

Flatbread Pizza is located by the airport in Edgartown.
