This coming Sunday, August 12 at 10 a.m., the Rev. Raphael G. Warnock will be the guest preacher at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs. Rev. Warnock travels here from Atlanta, Ga., where he is the senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. It was there, from the pulpit of its Heritage Sanctuary, that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached his ministry of nonviolence. Now, from that same pulpit, senior pastor Warnock continues Ebenezer’s legacy as a church at the forefront of the fight for social justice.

The Rev. Warnock’s outreach and activism have addressed such issues as voting rights, poverty, HIV/AIDS and disparities in the criminal justice system. A sought-after preacher and scholar, the Rev. Warnock is a member of the American Academy of Religion, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and various other civic and social organizations. He graduated cum laude from Morehouse College in 1991 with a degree in psychology. He also holds Master of Divinity, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Union Theological Seminary.

Union Chapel is a non-denominational church and is located at the intersection of Circuit, Kennebec and Narragansett avenues. The organ prelude by David Rhoderick begins at 9:40 a.m. All are welcome!
