The September–October issue of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine explores the migratory habits of off-Islanders who end up settling full-time on Martha’s Vineyard.

Kaila Binney, a farmer and sustainability educator, reflects on her years of international study and the grant that enabled her to share her knowledge here at home, and six other Vineyarders tell their own tales of coming to live on the Island. Writer Phyllis Meras travels to the Azores off the coast of Portugal, an island archipelago that has seen many residents move to new lives on Martha’s Vineyard.

The magazine follows writer Peter Brannen and photographer Alison Shaw as they chronicle the comings and goings of fog; Hungry Native bloggers Kelley DeBettencourt and Ezra Agnew offer their top 10 Vineyard food picks; the mystery of Priscilla Pearls is revealed to have a fishy origin; and the Moshup Trail moors provide a quiet, remote setting for a limited number of homes.

Also in the September–October issue: a guide to movies set on Martha’s Vineyard; the teamwork approach at Chilmark Chocolates; SCORE advisors dispense Island business advice; and writer/humorist Kate Feiffer muses about the choreographic capabilities of Steamship Authority deck hands.

The fall issue of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine is available at select Barnes & Noble bookstores and on Island newsstands.
