After nearly two decades tucked behind Main street, the Midnight Farm home store will move to the former Bunch of Grapes bookstore in Vineyard Haven.

Midnight Farm currently rents the building adjacent to and owned by Stop & Shop. However, due to Stop & Shop’s plans to expand into the building, Midnight Farm’s lease will end in September, said store owner Tamara Weiss.

“We lost our lease at Stop & Shop,” said Ms. Weiss. “They are expanding their building into where we have been for just about 18 years.”

Ms. Weiss said she looks forward to joining the shops on Main street and also experimenting with the 5,000 square feet of space, which is divided between two floors.

“The new challenge will be having a second floor, which I’ve never worked with,” said Ms. Weiss. “That’s going to be a creative process for me to think about.”

She said she hopes to be in the Main street location by Sept. 29. Ms. Weiss and staff already have begun to move storage unit items and the back room offices into the new building, which is owned by former Bunch of Grapes owner Ann Nelson.

“It’s a lot of physical labor that has to happen right now to make this transition a smooth one,” said Ms. Weiss. “It’s a whole new challenge that I’m embracing right now in a very short period of time.”

Ms. Weiss said customers can expect the same style of products in the new location: furniture, clothing, jewelry and bath and body items.

“It’s an exciting new adventure and I hope that other people will think so, too,” she said.

As for Stop & Shop, plans are still under wraps, according to store manager Sam Koohy. Last spring the supermarket corporation paid $950,000 for an adjacent building on Water street that once housed the Golden Dragon restaurant. In January Mr. Koohy said expansion plans included taking over that adjacent building as well as the space the supermarket rents to Midnight Farm. Mr. Koohy said he does not yet have an update on the ongoing process.
