Plein Air is in the air. For the month of October the Martha’s Vineyard Museum and Arts Martha’s Vineyard are teaming up to celebrate creativity done outdoors. During the month various museum properties will be open for Island artists for a series of plein air sessions. Plein air is a French expression that translates to “open air” and is often used to describe the act of painting outdoors. But in addition to paintings, the museum is encouraging the creation of poetry, photography and music.

The plein air sessions will take place from noon until 5 p.m. each weekend at the following locations: Gay Head Lighthouse on Oct. 6, 7 and 8; the museum’s Edgartown campus on Oct. 13 and 14; the museum’s Vineyard Haven campus on Oct. 20 and 21; and the Edgartown Lighthouse on Oct. 27 and 28.

Artists are invited to display their finished works for a few weeks in the museum’s Jan. 2013 exhibition.
