Field Hockey

The Vineyarders secured a place in the state tournament following last Thursday’s 2-1 defeat of league opponent West Bridgewater. The team fell to EAC opponent Somerset 1-0 on Saturday, and tied with Barnstable 0-0 on Tuesday to move to a 9-3-3 record on the season.

Football

The team took its second loss of the season during its homecoming game, falling 31-6 to visiting Cardinal Spellman. The game played out in similar fashion to the season opener against Old Rochester: though the Vineyard team made several advances into goal territory, it was unable to close out the deal in the face of Spellman’s defense, and suffered from turnovers throughout the game.

Junior Joe Turney scored the lone Vineyard touchdown on a 50-yard return in the second half. Senior Doug Andrade and junior Tony Canha led the defensive effort with eight tackles each.

Cross Country

In their best performance of the season, the cross country boys took second place in their division at the annual Bob McIntyre Twilight meet in Barnstable on Saturday, missing out on first by just four points. Junior Jeremy Alley-Tarter knocked 12 seconds off his previous personal best time to finish in 16:16, good for seventh place (in a field of 175 runners) in the varsity race.

“All the varsity boys either tied or beat their personal bests,” head coach Joe Schroeder said. “It’s crazy.”

Seniors Michael Schroeder, Cooper Chapman and Kyle Joba-Woodruff all ran sub-17 times to finish 9th, 13th and 14th, respectively. Senior Sam Oslyn finished 23rd overall (17:04), and juniors Isaiah Maynard and George Sykes also turned in personal bests.

Julia Neville ran a personal best (20:24) for the second week in a row to finish 8th of 149 in the girls’ sophomore race. Juniors Willoe Maynard and Lilly Neville competed in the varsity race, finishing with times of 21:18 and 23:34, respectively.

Boys’ Soccer

The boys split their games last week, defeating Bishop Stang 2-1 last Thursday, but falling 2-0 to visiting Bishop Feehan during Saturday’s home game. Scores from Thursday’s game against Somerset were unavailable at press time. The team is now 5-3-4.

Girls’ Soccer

The girls wrapped up league play with two tough losses to Bishop Stang (5-0) and Bishop Feehan (4-0).
