The Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard has announced the addition of Carlene Gatting and Paul Karasik to its governing board.

Ms. Gatling, a native of Connecticut, has worked both as a nurse and as a lawyer for the New York firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. She moved to the Vineyard full-time in 2001 after the birth of her twin girls. She has served on the Martha’s Vineyard Commission and the Dukes County Commission .

Mr. Karasik is one of the founding member’s of the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School, where he has served as board president and development director. Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor at The Rhode Island School of Design, and has taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, the Scuola di Comics Internazionale in Italy and the EESI School in Angouleme, France. A cartoonist and educator, his work has appeared in The New Yorker as well as many Island publications.
