On Halloween night, William street in Vineyard Haven will once again be a haven for goblins and ghouls of all sizes. From 6 to 9 p.m. the street will be blocked off for cars, beginning at Franklin street and extending to Woodlawn street.

Main street will be accessible to cars but Centre and Church streets and Colonial Lane will be blocked off.

For those who haven’t been to William street on Halloween, the trip is well worth it. Some even call it the Times Square of Vineyard Halloween.

For nearly three decades, trick-or-treaters have flocked to the street. Nearly all decorate in some fashion, some even create haunted houses or garages. And no one goes away empty handed. Residents often head off-Island in the weeks before to stock up on treats.

If there’s time and energy, combine down-Island with up-Island by heading up to the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury, which celebrates a more rural version of Halloween fun. Enjoy apple bobbing and a horse drawn hay ride through the West Tisbury graveyard.
