The best antidote to the cold is not turning up the heat or starting a roaring fire. It’s meeting the new season head-on and becoming one with the chill. A warm sweater, hat and mittens does help, but even more warming is the sight of the woods on a winter’s day when walking step-by-step through the landscape.

The Polly Hill Arboretum understands this call of the winter wild. Which is why this Saturday they are beginning their season of winter walks. Throughout the season every second Saturday of the month is walk day. Tours start at 10 a.m., are free and run for a little over an hour. Mark the calendar; Nov. 10, Dec. 8, Jan. 12, Feb. 9 and March 9.
