Skip Finley, a nationally-recognized broadcast executive, has been appointed director of sales and marketing for the Vineyard Gazette Media Group, which includes the Vineyard Gazette newspaper, Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, Welcome to Martha’s Vineyard travel guide and associated web sites. The announcement was made this week by publisher Jane Seagrave.

A seasonal resident of Oak Bluffs since 1955 and year-round resident since 1999, Mr. Finley has worked in television, advertising and radio since 1971, and has owned or operated more than 40 radio stations and three radio networks. Mr. Finley is executive vice president of and a consultant to the Carter Broadcast Group of Kansas City that owns the second oldest and longest black-owned radio station in America.

He served as chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau and vice chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters’ radio board. He has served on the boards of the Library of American Broadcasting and the Broadcasters Foundation of America and is a member of its executive committee.

Mr. Finley writes the Oak Bluffs town column for the Vineyard Gazette. He is an avid sport fisherman, a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club and a trustee and member of the board of overseers of the Vineyard Open Land Foundation.

“I’m excited to join the Vineyard Gazette,” said Mr. Finley. “I’ve tried to retire several times and found that it’s not something I’m good at. I am delighted to work with the nationally-heralded newspaper I have read for almost my entire life and look forward to being of service to our many clients.”
