State Rep. Timothy Madden, who represents the Cape and Islands, has appointed Kaylea Moore, an Island native and West Tisbury resident, as his new liaison to Martha’s Vineyard. Ms. Moore will replace Nell Coogan, who had held the position since Mr. Madden was elected in 2008. Ms. Coogan was recently appointed the director of Development and Community Relations at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. Ms. Moore, a graduate of Wesleyan University who is working on a graduate degree in gastronomy at Boston University, said Ms. Coogan recommended her for the job and said it would be a good opportunity to work with community organizations and community issues.

“Growing up here, that means a lot,” Ms. Moore said. She spent time in Boston this week at an orientation for new legislative aids.

“It’s nice being from a small community and a really supportive community,” she said.

“We are very excited about Ms. Kaylea Moore who, like Nell, grew up on the Island and is very invested in the community already,” Mr. Madden said in a press release. “Kaylea will be a great compliment to our office and we look forward to working with her as she continues to build relationships with Island officials and local agencies, as well as advocating for and giving a voice to our constituents on the Island and in Boston.”
