What a pleasure it is to tell all the loyal readers of the column that the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is down to just one dog and three cats. The one little dog waiting for a new home is Jerry, a good, brown chihuahua. His buddy Millie was adopted and Jerry is lonesome! He is a little afraid of small children so would do best in a home with children over 15. He would make a wonderful watch dog and lap dog for the right owner.

Fluffykins is eight-weeks-old. — Alison L. Mead

The featured cat this week is a beautiful six-month-old ginger tiger kitten with lovely golden eyes and a purr that will melt your heart. His name is Freckles and he is the greatest lap cat. The other little kitten is eight-week-old Fluffykins, a sweet long-haired dark gray tiger kitten whose sister also was adopted this past week, so she, too, is lonesome. Her mother (Teresa) will be spayed soon and ready to find her new home; these kittens and their mother were abandoned at the shelter when the kittens were only about five weeks old.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
