When I woke up the other morning and there was seven inches of snow on my deck I thought I was dreaming. But with the sun out and the temperature rising, it made shoveling a little easier and less precise. Mother Nature sure is teasing us this spring. Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Isabella Campo and Angel Shepard, who celebrated their day on March 23; to Colleen Carroll on March 24; to Amelia Durawa and Maria Menezes on March 26; and to Sara Creato and Jared Davenport, who celebrate their day today, March 29.
Special wishes go out to one of my favorite bicycle builders and creator, David Weagle, who celebrated his birthday March 25 — here is to many more.
This past weekend was a beautiful one and a number of people were out and about. Donaroma’s had their open house and many young people were happy with their pansies and other gifts the florist was giving out. And, of course, there was a stop at the Dairy Queen. This weekend will be a big one because of Easter. Giordano’s and the Flying Horses are open. So let’s hope the sun gods follow suit.
My friend and neighbor Ellen Blodgett called me Sunday to say that she and her husband, Mark, and daughter, Ella, were going around to the florists and asked if I wanted to join them. I did, and we headed up island. Ellen said she wanted to check out Lucy Vincent Beach since the cliff had caved in during the last storm. Now I know it is hard to believe, but I have never been to Lucy Vincent Beach. So this was a new adventure for me and yes, I got to leave my clothes on! The beach was packed with adults, children and dogs of all sizes. It is a shame that the cliffs are eroding away, but the water was beautiful and the sand was welcoming. It was a great treat and made me feel lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
Of course, if you are that far up-Island, you might as well go to Chilmark Chocolates for a bag of sweets. When we arrived there were just a few cars in the parking lot, but as we were leaving it seemed that a lot of other people had the same idea. The lot started to fill up fast, but it was well worth the trip.
Having dinner with Pam Dolby and her husband, plus Bob and Gail Avakian, can be a memorable night. Pam is a great cook and we always look forward to what she creates. I got to hear about their trip the Grand Caymans — much of it was comical and they had a great time. The first few days took some adjusting, but once they got settled, it was a relaxing time around the pool with some beach time and a lot of reading. The Kindles were hot — one person read five books and the other seven. There were many good meals at restaurants with some nice fish dishes.
I wish you all a great Easter. I hope there is a nice sunrise service and that you get to enjoy some time with your family. Watch out for the Easter bunny and don’t eat too many Peeps.
