A controlled burn is planned on Saturday at The Nature Conservancy’s Hoft Farm in West Tisbury.

Conducted by the Martha’s Vineyard Prescribed Fire Partnership, the burn will be monitored carefully by trained fire teams; smoke or the odor of smoke may be noticeable around State and Old County Roads in West Tisbury.

The burns help reduce the amount of fuel that can accelerate wildfires, and they are an ecological management tool that help restore the health of natural areas by allowing plants and wildlife to rejuvenate.

Members of the prescribed fire partnership include Mass Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, Polly Hill Arboretum, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation and The Trustees of Reservations.
