Chilmark joins the rest of the world in sending good wishes to the injured, condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed and a plea for peace for us all, after the dreadful bombing in Boston.
Chilmark School students are happy to tell us that over 60 people came by to see their art work at the reception held at the Chilmark library. The paintings and drawings will remain on display at the library meeting room for the rest of the month. You can visit the exhibit during regular library hours. Please remember that the town meeting is on April 22 at the community center at 7:30 p.m. The annual town elections and the special state primary election will be on April 30 at the Community Center from 7 a.m to 8 p.m.
The 31st annual Women’s Symposium will be at the Community Center on April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. The subject this time will be the Power of Words. There is no charge to attend and a donation is requested to cover the mailing and refreshment costs. This is a popular town event and it is wise to come early for convenient parking.
The Pathways Projects arts program has more planned for the month. There will be a program on Saturday April 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. entitled Space Arts/Aqua Terrestrial Surfaces and on Monday, April 22, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. there will be a screening of Planet Ocean. Please call 508-645-9098 for more information as there are many more things planned for April.
John Jacobs and Marilyn Newsom are in from Denver for a week or so of spring cleanup, they hope to be back in June for some fun in the sun.
The handsome new sign for Beach Plum Inn and Restaurant is in place. Marshall Carroll nade it from old boards that were from the old Menemsha docks. Nice job.
Please remember Susan Larsen is still preparing for her third Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Boston on May 18 and 19. Her goal is to have raised $50,000 over the three-year period she has been participating. Her goal this year is $16,000. We hope she receives support from us all and makes her goal . . . to achieve a cure for breast cancer soon. Her mailing address is 108 Hammett Lane, Chilmark, MA 02535.
Have I told you that the new town accountant is Ellen Biskis? She lives in Chilmark and has children in the Chilmark School so she is known to most of us and is already hard at work at town hall.
Sorry, but this is a short news week. The pressures of my spring chores and yours have prevented us from sharing the news. Please call me with your adventures, shop openings, graduation news, and anything else we would all enjoy hearing about.
