Warm weather has ever so slowly arrived with temperatures in the 60s during the sunlight of the past week. The wild pear is in bloom, forsythia continue to flourish with the intense yellow feathers of the goldfinches on the branches and the golden crowned kinglet flying around the daffodils. Martha’s Vineyard Minnesingers, under the direction of Jan Wightman, will present Roots on Saturday, May 4, at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. for their spring concert at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Performing Arts Center. General admission is $10, seniors and students $7. Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living would like to invite you to Dine to Donate at Sharkey’s in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown on Tuesday night, May 7. Whether you dine in or out that night, the proceeds from the benefit will support the programs of MVC4L, and especially the supportive day program. For further information, please call Ginger Duarte at 508-693-6570. Aquinnah Mothers are invited to a Mother’s Day Tea at the Aquinnah Public Library on Saturday, May 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. For further information regarding the tea, please call Friends of Aquinnah Public Library president Molly Purves at 508-645-3251. Condolences to the family and friends of beloved Vineyard music teacher Dorothy Bangs who passed away at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital this past week. Mrs. Bangs was always very supportive of Community Baptist Church of Gay Head, where she would often attend services in the community of many of her former students. She was looking forward to the Vineyard Museum being her new neighbor in Tisbury, and would have most likely have been a docent as she and her late husband Stuart were both great historians. I looked forward to our annual conversations when she would call about the daffodil sale for the American Cancer Society or a program at First Baptist Church. I delighted in her music when she entertained the patients in the old long-term care unit at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital when the solarium was right around the corner from my office. She will be greatly missed. Maxwell Butler and Patrick Droney will be the opening musicians for South Side Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at the House of Blues in Atlantic City on May 24. Nina P. Butler will arrive home this weekend from her winter home in Aspen, Colo., for a 10-day stay with her parents Lenny and Mallory Butler.

Condolences to Dr. Jordan Cohen and his family on the loss of his wife Carole Cohen, whom I had the pleasure of working with on the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services board of directors. Carole also served as our development committee chairman and was at the forefront of the Possible Dreams Auction. Dr. Cohen and I worked on the same floor of the Ziskind Research Building at Tufts-New England Medical Center more than 40 years ago.

Condolences to T. George Davis and his family and friends in the loss of his daughter Michelle Rae Davis who passed away at Children’s Hospital this past week.

Condolences to the family and friends of Brian Ferreira, formerly of Winthrop avenue in Oak Bluffs, who passed away in New York this week. Brian was a family friend of many decades and generations.

Condolences to Curtis Langer, his wife Molly Purves and their son Rodeo in the loss of Curtis’ mother Mrs. Olga Langer of New Jersey.
