The Yard, a contemporary dance residency program located in Chilmark, and the Trustees of Reservations will host a performance on June 1 at the Mytoi Garden on Chappaquiddick. The “dance walk-around” will feature improvised modern dance performances by 12 members of the Yard and What’s Written Within, another Island dance group.

The event is the product of a collaboration between the Yard and the Trustees of Reservations. Molly Peach, Islands educator for the Trustees, initially approached Jesse Keller, The Yard’s co-producer and resident director of programs and education, to brainstorm ways to better engage the Island community with the Trustees’ properties. Ms. Keller said she wants to bring audiences to a new venue and “get dance out of the theater.”

The pair chose Mytoi Garden as their first location. Ms. Keller said she finds the garden’s natural beauty particularly inspiring. Performances will “pop up” throughout the garden while guests enjoy the scenery, she said.

The event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. and is free.

Van service will be provided to and from the event on the Chappaquiddick side of the ferry. Transportation will run on the hour and guests desiring van service should call 508-693-2842 to preregister.
