Bye, bye bunnies! All the rabbits at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are hopping down the bunny trail to new homes this week. Think how much good luck they will bring to their new families with all those rabbit feet in the house.

The adorable orange kitties have been adopted by the same person. It is always gratifying to see two little ones who have been born and raised together remain united. More kittens will soon be available. That beautiful mother cat who delivered her litter of five under a house in Edgartown is weaning her lively brood. This is the season of birth. More kittens are coming to the shelter this week. There is a two-page waiting list of potential adopters. You can always add your name to the list and keep your fingers crossed.

The shelter’s “golden girls,” Hazel and Hero, both need comfy laps to sit on in their old age. The usual fee will be waived for the kind people who take them home. Hazel is a tortoiseshell with golden eyes who loves people. Hero, a petite gray and white, also loves humans but will not tolerate other cats in her space.

Michael, the big shy stray from West Tisbury, wants a permanent place as well. Another male has joined the group. A young tiger named Bentley has just been neutered and will make a fine companion.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
