The Weston contest is a rematch for the two teams, who met in the semifinals last year.

For the second straight year, the Vineyard boys tennis team will go to the division three state tournament.

The boys swept Westport 5-0 in Barnstable Saturday.

“The guys played well,” said veteran tennis coach Ned Fennessy, who retires this year.

It was the third postseason sweep for the Vineyard team, which beat Seekonk and Dover-Sherborn earlier in the week. Westport was number one seed in the south bracket and undefeated going into match play. The Vineyard was seeded number two.

Senior Natty Schneider earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at first singles, while senior co-captain Kent Leonard took a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles. Leonard is undefeated in team play this year. Senior co-captain Justice Yennie went 6-3, 6-0 at third singles.

Coach Fennessy said the doubles teams saw standout play. Senior Jackson McBride and junior Patrick McCarthy blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles, and second doubles duo Ryan Sawyer and Justin Smith went 6-0, 6-2.
