Oak Bluffs package stores may now stay open until 11 p.m., following a vote by the town selectmen Tuesday. Previously the stores had closed at 10 p.m., while Edgartown liquor stores remained open an extra hour. The request to delay closing came from the owners of the package stores, who wished for a more level playing field with their Edgartown competition, selectman Michael Santoro said. Police chief Erik Blake spoke in favor of the change because he said it would help prevent people from “driving back and forth and being on the roads after drinking.” There are four package stores in Oak Bluffs.
