Pet owner alert: the Harbor View Hotel is sponsoring a Celebration of Pets this Saturday morning, June 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring your furry or feathered family members in carriers or on leashes to walk in the parade and to receive a blessing. The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard will award ribbons to all participants. This is your chance to pet an alpaca. The black dog from the Black Dog will also be there. The event is free, but if you are moved to make a donation to the shelter to aid animals less fortunate than your own, it will be appreciated.

There is a pre-owned dog at the shelter right now. Her name is Roxy and she comes with very low mileage, being only a year and a half old. She is a beautiful strawberry blonde, medium-sized golden lab-border collie mix. She will be available for adoption after being spayed next week.

That dwarf black bunny is still available. The potential adoption was never completed so he is still with us enjoying his carrots and greens. He is a soft little guy who would love to have a permanent petter to stroke his fur. There is a new inhabitant of the cat room. Bentley is a year-old male tiger who was just neutered. He is an indoor cat who loves his toys. The shelter is crossing names off the list of those who want kittens as we have placed several youngsters recently. We expect a new batch in the next week. Drop in to visit the animals in residence.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
