The Animal Shelter says thank you to the Harbor View Hotel for hosting the Celebration of Pets last weekend. A good time was had by all, including a goat, two sociable alpacas and canines of every size and description. The event coincided with the Harbor View’s new pet-friendly policy. Henceforth, it is not necessary to find a sitter for Fido if you wish to spend some time at the hotel. This will be welcome news to the many owners who suffer from separation anxiety when they must leave their best friend behind.

The Animal Shelter bid goodbye to the dwarf bunny, Clarence, who has been adopted, and to the young tiger cat, Bentley, who also departed to new digs.

Two new kittens were brought in. They are not used to humans and need volunteer cuddlers to pet and play with them in order to make them adoptable. They are both females. Anyone with a fondness for kittens and some time to spare is welcome to visit them.

The new little white Maltese terrier has been groomed and looks very spiffy. His name is Brody. He will be neutered next week and will then be ready for adoption.

The trio of cats who have been residing at the shelter for many weeks are still expecting some kind person to claim them. The usual adoption fee will be waived if Hazel, Hero or Michael are given permanent placement.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
