Gray and muggy morning. Temperature rises to the 70s. Threat of rain but none arrives. Little sailboats decorate the waters near the Edgartown Lighthouse. A fleet of sailing dinghies zigzag in the outer Edgartown Harbor, passing around bright floating orange buoys. Farland Square in Oak Bluffs is bustling with pedestrian traffic in the late afternoon. Damp. Tiger lilies mark the edge of a sidewalk on Wing road and offer color on an otherwise grey late evening.
Saturday, July 13:
Overcast morning. Fog banks move across Nantucket Sound. Sailboats move slowly across the horizon on Nantucket Sound, going from West Chop to Cape Pogue and back. Brief period of sunshine in the afternoon. Clouds increase, skies darken. Heavy rain arrives late afternoon. Outdoor party at the Cleaveland House in West Tisbury is quickly moved indoors. Grey evening. Trickling wet leaves on low branches wave back and forth.
Sunday, July 14:
A calm still morning. Not a ripple in the still water of Lagoon Pond at sunrise. A light breeze from the northeast in midmorning, shifts to westerly by noon. An impromptu parade of sailboats leaves Edgartown harbor. Catboat Vanity sails across the inner Edgartown harbor.
Monday, July 15:
Partly sunny morning. Temperature rises to 90 at the Edgartown Cooperative Weather Station. A dripping ice cream cone afternoon.
Tuesday, July 16:
Clear blue skies in the morning. Another hot day. South Beach has small waves and young swimmers with boogie boards make the best of it. Waders enjoy the cool at Menemsha beach. Light breeze in the afternoon. Spectacular sunset is watched from West Chop. A quarter moon appears high in the west.
Wednesday, July 17:
A calm morning. An American flag in Edgartown harbor is lifted only a little by a light breeze. The Chappaquiddick ferry speeds across the channel under clear blue skies. The wake sparkles. A fisherman holds a fishing rod at Memorial Wharf.
Thursday, July 18:
The forecast is for a chance of fog in the morning. Otherwise bright sunshine. Temperature reaches the mid 80s.
