The top-seeded Martha’s Vineyard Sharks will go to the championship series of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League after a 7-3 victory against the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide Monday night.

The Sharks will play the Nashua Silver Knights in a best of three series beginning Wednesday in Nashua, N.H. The two teams then play at home at the Vineyard Baseball Park on Thursday at 7 p.m. If necessary, a third game will be played at home on Friday at 4 p.m.

This marks the first time for the Sharks to advance to the FCBL post season.

On Monday night, pitcher John Cook, a sophmore at Amherst, went eight innings to earn the win. Closer Jon Dunn (Le Moyne) stepped in for one shutout inning, sealing the victory. Davidson Peguero (Fisher College), who started the season as a pitcher, notched three hits and an RBI to lead the offense. Shortstop Dylan Tice (Indiana University of Pennsylvania), recently named the FCBL most valuable player, had one hit and two RBIs.

Sharks took a best-of-three series against the Raging Tide, seeded fourth in the playoffs. The Sharks earned their first win of the series Sunday night at home with a 4-3 win against the Raging Tide.

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks host the Nashua Silver Knights Thursday night in the championship series of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Play begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Vineyard Baseball Park. If necessary, a third game will be played at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon at the Vineyard Baseball Park.
