Aquinnah Public Library celebrates the end of the summer reading program with a pizza party tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the library. Rose Styron will speak on Thursday, August 29 at 5 p.m. about curating her husband’s legacy with her new book, Selected Letters of William Styron. Refreshments will be served.

The 25th annual Sullivan 5K Walk/Run for the benefit of Martha’s Vineyard Hospital will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Washington Park.

Sally and Ben Taylor and friends will perform for the benefit of the West Tisbury Library Renovation Fund on Tuesday, August 27 at 8 p.m. at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. Tickets are $20 at the door. The Art Cliff Diner truck will be available for dinner between 6 and 8 p.m.

Our new Aquinnah town nurse Laura Murphy, through the VNA, will conduct her first Aquinnah blood pressure clinic on Tuesday, August 27 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the town hall. John Ackerman arrived over the weekend for a few days to celebrate a major milestone birthday at the home of his nephew, Woody Vanderhoop, his wife, Jamie Sue, and one-year-old Sowanahsh. This was John’s first visit since spending a few hours here to attend Woody’s wedding. John enjoyed the fair with his sister, Roxane Ackerman, and his nieces, Diamond, Faith, and Billie-Diamond.

A memorial service is being planned for Bob Lee for September. Bob is survived by his son Daniel Spitz Lee and Marjorie Spitz, as well as numerous friends from across the Vineyard.

Dr. Fred Meyer Jr. and his wife, Irene, arrived this week for a visit with his mother, Charlotte Meyer. Their children, Benjamin, Robbie and Jenna, will leave soon for their colleges in New England. No more Minnesota winters for now for these young students. Fred is on the staff of the Mayo Clinic, a far cry from his teen years of sailing on Menemsha Pond with his companion and an alarm clock.

James Meyer, son of Charlotte and her late husband, Dr. Frederick Meyer Sr., is an associate curator of modern art at the National Gallery of Art. Kerry James Marshall’s In the Tower is currently being featured through December 7. Mr. Marshall’s work explores the experiences of African Americans.

Gail and Al Polsby, summer residents of Lighthouse Road for 34 years, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on August 31. Their daughter Abigail and her wife, Julie Munger, and their son, Dan Polsby, and his wife, Karla Chrobak, will be coming in from Truckee, Calif., and Chicago, respectively to help them celebrate.

Arnold and Norma Zack’s grandchildren, Akeakami and Kealakai, enjoyed their summer visit. Kealakai thinks the Aquinnah Fourth of July parade is for her birthday celebration. Lacey Zack, spouse of son Jonathan Zack, is presently in her chief residency in orthopedic surgery and has delayed her Vineyard visit until next summer.
