The Animal Shelter has an A.P.B. out for the owner of a large male cat found on Mount Aldworth avenue in Vineyard Haven. This handsome gentleman was trying to move in with a family who already had two cats. He is residing at the shelter until he is reclaimed by his owner or adopted. Sweet and friendly, this cat is quite distinctive with a prominent dark spot beside his nose and a few white hairs mixed into his otherwise smooth gray coat. He is on the larger side, somewhere around 15 pounds, a perfect lapful of purring.

At the opposite end of the weight scale is another gray feline, a baby boy kitten about 3 months old. This little guy is endlessly curious and playful. He is a tailess cat, so there must be some Manx in his genetic background. T.C., the calico, watches his antics warily. She would do best as the only cat in the household. The orange mother cat, Etta, whose kittens have both been adopted, was giving the little gray kitten a serious bath the other day, licking him from head to toe like he was one of her own. Once a mother . . . .Meanwhile, the long-term tenants Michael, Tux, Esther and Miss Kitty are hoping for the right person to claim them.

The singing guinea pig, Gizmo, is still oinking away at top volume in the lobby of the shelter. His gentle mom, Sophia, is also waiting for her forever cage. Either or both would be the perfect pet for a lucky child. As autumn settles in with shorter days, a furry little animal could keep everyone amused indoors. The Animal Shelter has a nice selection of four-footed entertainers. Come see them.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
