A small group of black powder enthusiasts competed for prizes at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod & Gun Club’s annual Black Powder Shoot under raw weather conditions on Dec. 16. This year’s top honors went to Ladi Navratil of Vineyard Haven, who won the primitive firearms title. Ned Casey of Edgartown captured the modern firearm title this year. Other prize winners in the modern category were Mike Ferry and Matt Cromwell, and in the primitive category Cliff Meehan and Nelson Sigelman were winners.

The Bill Nicholson Award was presented this year to Ned Casey of Edgartown. This honor is presented each year to the outstanding participant of the black powder championship in memory of Civil War and primitive firearm enthusiast Bill Nicholson.

The club congratulates all who participated and would like thank those who donated prizes and food for the event, which also raises funds for the club’s children’s programs.
