Boaz Kirschenbaum is turning 40 and doing it in public, with music, too, on Saturday, Feb. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. Well-wishers who will be bringing their instruments and voices to the Katharine Cornell Theatre include Daytrippers, Good Night Louise, Flying Elbows, Jellybone Rivers and Nina Violet.

There will also be a super group formed for this one enchanted evening to perform songs from the Grateful Dead's 1972 European concert tour. That's the album that led with Cumberland Blues into He's Gone, One More Saturday Night, Jack Straw and onward. As fitting for a birthday boy, Boaz will play the part of Jerry Garcia, with Mike Benjamin as Bob Weir, Pinto Abrams as Phil Lesh, Wes Nagy as Keith Godchaux, Shelagh Hackett as Donna Godchaux, Charlie Esposito as Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Brian Weiland as Bill Kreutzmann, and Tauras Biskis as Mickey Hart.

The evening is free and everyone is invited. So put on your dancing shoes and shake it with Sugaree. You only turn 40 once.

Donations will be accepted and all money will go to the public school instrument maintenance fund.
