Did you miss me? I certainly missed you. Unlike Humpty, all Mass. General’s women and men were able to put me back together again. What a positive experience! Thank you to all and thanks to all who sent cards, phone calls, prayers and treats. I have so many more people to thank and admire in my life now. This being Storybook Island, I ran into two doctors who saved my life at Stop & Shop downtown yesterday — Dr. Ellen McMahon of our town and hospital, and Dr. Richard Penson of Mass. General. Dr. Penson presented me with the first sight of a doctor shopping at a food store with a stethoscope around his neck, but I’m sure it has happened before. Anyway, just goes to show how dedicated he is. And what would Nonna and I have done without Leide DePaula, June Manning, Jyl Manning, Piper Murphy, Hunter Thomas, Laurie Marotta and Teri Praskach? Two young men helped out as well, Naromar DePaula and young Robbie Manning.

Since I finally had some time in Boston, I was determined to have fun and not just be there for medical reasons. Thank goodness for Teri who accompanied me and made sure I was able to get around. She found a terrific bookstore on West street, Brattle Books — and why has no one told me about this wonderful place before? You all know I’m addicted to books.

We also delighted in the expertise of Sharon Stone, placing us at the very interesting Beacon House. We had a grand time interacting with the residents of this charming old hotel. Master of ceremonies, Bob Goodwin, ran a Lunar New Year Party on Jan. 31 in the community room, which Teri and I attended. There was great camaraderie and a beautiful Chinese-American woman sang acapella in Chinese.

In between check-ups and appointments I was able to surprise Teri with a showing of the Blue Man Group. I had seen them twice on Astor Place, where they originated years ago. The show is quite fresh and always fun. Of course we posed for selfies with the Blue Men after the show.

The highlight of our trip was, as usual, seeing the doctors, nurses, technicians, CNAs and staff on floor 21 of Ellison, and especially the incomparable Christianna Kamara. This has become a true home away from home.

Well, I hear I missed a lot of snow days on-Island — not that I was in sledding shape — but here I sit typing on June Manning’s birthday and it is still a blizzard out there — on a spring day! Go figure. I am leaning towards giving up like my brothers did and moving to Florida. Well, those who know me know I won’t give them the satisfaction of admitting they were right and I was wrong. Bring on the snow!

Bring any pictures you have of our community, make that the whole Island, on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Edgartown. They are preparing for a show on May 23 of the Vineyard in the 1960s. If you are unable to get to the museum this Saturday, call Anna Carringer at 508-627-4441, extension 114 or email her at acarringer@mvmuseum.org.

Get over the winter blues right now by pulling out your calendars and marking up April with some upcoming events. On Tuesday, April 1, Jeremy Berlin will entertain the infants to 2 year olds at 10 a.m., and the 3 to 5-year-old set gets their own show at 11 a.m. at our library. Corrine Dorsey jumps in on Thursday at 4 p.m. with Wicked Awesome, Supah Fun activities for ages 5 and older.

Our library has been very kind about opening Sundays in the off-season, but April 20 will be its last Sunday until after Columbus Day. Other changes to the schedule are Monday, April 21, when the library will close for Patriots’ Day. On Tuesday, April 29, the library closes at 6:30 p.m. so that we may all attend the annual Tisbury town meeting. I’ll see you there.

Teri and I stopped in at the St. Augustine Friday night fish fry last weekend and saw friends we hadn’t seen for years. What fun. The fish fry is held every Friday during Lent downstairs at St. Augustine’s Church. You can start by joining them for the Stations of the Cross at 5:30 p.m. or just join us and Father Nagle at 6 p.m.

I was able to get to my first Legion auxiliary meeting in a long time. It was the first meeting of the season held last Tuesday night. We have all kinds of plans for your entertainment and ours so stay tuned.

I see that Copper Wok is finally open. I have heard very good reviews from friends who have already eaten there.

Forgive me for all the birthdays I missed, but you know I wished you well. Currently my birthday book is under wraps, so here is a short birthday bandwagon for the upcoming week: On April 1, Catherine Buck, George Santos and Robin Rebello Meader take the cake.

Many happy returns.
