I had the most wonderful visit with Anna Duarte yesterday. Anna is moving to Windemere and there she was, waiting for a new room assignment today, which will be room 315. The frosting on the cake was meeting her sister, Patricia Medeiros Suchy, of Pensacola, Fla. Patricia was born and bred on-Island but has been in Florida practically since graduating high school. By the way, Patricia was in the last graduating class of the Oak Bluffs High School back in the day when each town had its own, before the regional high school. Patricia was as lively, warm and funny as her sister. We had a good time swapping stories, talking about upcoming events in our American Legion Auxiliary, and marveling over Anna’s three recent helicopter trips to Mass General. I have never been in a helicopter in my life! Anna is doing so well now and invites you to visit her. She is anxious to get to Copper Wok. I told her I have heard the food is great but haven’t been able to go there yet. I don’t know if this is on the menu, but Anna is hoping someone will bring her egg foo young. I guess that is not on the Windemere menu. Patricia will be here until mid May, so go hang out with these two delights. Just an aside, I thought I had seen all the new art work at the hospital but apparently not. I missed some great paintings and photos at Windemere, one of the absolute best I saw yesterday was of the Beatles. They looked like they were 15 years old.

From the corrections department: Did I actually write in my last column that the lovely Sharon Stone had booked me into the Beacon House in Boston on my last trip? A slip of the tongue perhaps because she is as beautiful as a movie star, but the name is Sharon Scott. If you ever meet her, bring a bone for her adorable dog, Kenya.

My new small feature in this column is called Out of My Mind. Was I the only one last week who, upon reading the latest celebrity gossip, managed to associate Gertrude Stein and Gwyneth Paltrow in one thought? Reading about the highly touted uncoupling, I immediately thought of what Gertrude Stein famously said: “There is no there there.”

Confidential to Lyn K: My good friend Gail Becker called to check on me and recommended some books for Nonna and me. We had both read Richard Russo’s prize-winning Empire Falls years ago, but did not read or know he wrote Nobody’s Fool and his memoir of his mother, Elsewhere. Our library gang handily found those two books for us and we have finished them. Thanks, Gail.

Mark your calendars for our Tisbury candidates forum on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center. There is a contested election for town clerk and several new candidates for uncontested positions. I’ll see you there. And this is a great time to thank town clerk Marion Mudge for her years of devoted service.

Our best get well wishes and prayers go out for Dr. Michelle Gerhard Jasny and April Cimeno.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along my beautiful and talented young neighbor, Amber Willoughby, today on her sweet 16. Amber shares this day with Tine Sonderby. Tomorrow shines on Gary Mayrand, Kinsman Mayrand, Tripta Bahal, Dan Fleming, John Valley and Julian David Burghoff. April 6 belongs to Kelsey Forend-Healy and Nancy Shemeth. April 7 honors Muriel Gerhard. April 8 is claimed by Simon Goldberg. April 9 is for April Cimeno and Laura Daly. And on April 10, Jason Mayrand takes the cake. Many happy returns.
