Our hearts and souls go out to the Larsen family. Louis Larsen of the Net Result had the death of his father, Louis Sr., a most wonderful man, two weeks ago. Then, last weekend in an early morning traffic accident, someone drove a car through Louis’ beautiful store. Thank goodness it was early morning and no one was in the shop. The damage is extensive and Louis is working on it. I will let you know when it re-opens. Such a shame, I always remember a sure sign of spring is Palm Sunday weekend with everyone getting Net Result take-out and filling up the outdoor tables with their blue umbrellas. If we can help in any way, Louis, you’ve got a friend.

June Manning wants me to remind you that tomorrow, April 12, is spring Electronics Disposal Day on the campus of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. Time is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great way to get rid of your unused or broken electronics and help raise money for Community Services. I think I have some toasters from when Hector was a pup. I’ll see you there.

My dear friend Amber had a terrific sweet 16 birthday last Friday. The cake was awesome, made at the Black Dog, with chocolate frosting and the Red Sox logo on it. Who could ask for anything more?

April is a month of many things, two of them close to my heart. It is National Autism Month. Wear and display your blue proudly, attend any events and seminars you can. It is also National Poetry Month. William Waterway, that most dear creative spirit, reminds us that April 24 is Poem in Your Pocket Day. It can be one of your own or a favorite from the poets. I’ll be downtown and I’ll be checking on which poem you have chosen.

Anna Duarte had a swell time with her sister Patricia here. As of this writing, Patricia has returned to Pensacola, leaving many fun memories. Come back soon, Pat! Anna has been moved to her room assignment with the wonderful Diane Rhoades as a roommate. Stop in Windemere and share their view of the harbor, room 315. Don’t forget the egg foo young for Anna.

You remember the last stupid wild storm we had a few weeks ago which closed our library and postponed many events? Well, the last in our series of American music was postponed until Wednesday, April 16. It will be at the Katharine Cornell Theatre at 7 p.m. and features Jemima James and the Flying Elbows. It is free, and bring your dancing sneakers. I’ll see you there.

It seems our lives are centered around our wonderful library; the library runs the show in this town. Please get your entries in for the Island artists show at the library, submissions are due by May 1. Call Jennifer at the library, 508-696-4210, extension 12 or email francine@featherstone.net. Prepare for the monthly mini-book sale on Saturday, April 19, at our new time, 2 to 4 p.m. My house can’t fit a toothpick, much less another book but, ah, what treasures are there! Nonna and I have taken to shoring up holes in the wall with my collection, holding up three-legged beds and tables, and forming stands for flowering plants. It’s not a house of cards, it’s a house of books. Only problem comes when I want to re-read one that is holding up furniture!

Confidential to Lyn K: Nonna and I read anything Ann Rule. We found an early book by Ann titled Possession, which is the first novel of hers I ever read. We also became hooked on Pat Conroy’s The Great Santini and The Death of Santini.

The corrections department: that last birthday in my column last week was for Jason Murphy on April 10. I mauled that name.

From the out of my mind department: continuing to be obsessed with trash talk tabloids I realized, yes, I have heard and used the word “uncoupling” many times before. But it was always in the context of the Lionel train set my brothers and I had as young’uns.

Richard Paradise has prepared a fabulous Sunday for us at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society at the Tisbury Marketplace. Opera buffs get to see Don Giovanni at noon. As an extra attraction, if you arrive by 11:30 a.m., Adele Dryer on piano and Atzic Marquez on violin will play Mozart for you, free of charge. Nonna and I will see you there.

Later, beginning at 3:15 p.m., also at the film center, another subject close to my heart comes into play. I shall never forget my father, many of my family and friends, and the people I visit at Windemere who are compromised by Alzheimer’s disease. Several of our best workers in this field, including Karen Achille and Leslie Clapp, will be there when Quitsa Cuisine caters wine and hors d’ouevres. The Black Dog and the Scottish Bakehouse will provide mini-desserts. Then, Julie Christie, who I’ve always been entranced by, plays a woman with this illness in the film Away from Her. There will be a question and answer session after the movie, facilitated by Karen. Members of the film society pay $20 for this event, nonmembers are admitted for $25. I’ll see you there.

So many events — I guess I’ll be sleeping out of my truck this week to fit them all in.

Good news! April Cimeno is doing much better and was able to celebrate her April 9 birthday at home. April is 29!

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Zachary Atumick, Suzanne Cory and Jennifer Kuehne today. April 12 shines on Siobhan Francis, Elmer Silva and Danielle Ewart. April 13 is for Barbara Kunzelman and Taylor Gramkowski. April 14 honors Rita McKenna Kean, Emily Brown and William Diamond. April 15 is a party for Shirley Kennedy, Wendy Francis and Joe Ojile. And on April 16, Jenny Seward and Evan Rogers take the cake.

Many happy returns
