Once upon a time I enjoyed attending Martha’s Vineyard airport commission meetings but that was in 1998 when I recorded and transcribed their minutes — just before my heart attack.

Spring was in the air with the temperatures reaching the mid 60s on Saturday and it was a great day for electronic disposals and to meet so many fascinating young students who assisted during the day, as well as Brian Kennedy and his crew and MV Community Services board members. Thank you to our Aquinnah Wampanoag youth Benjamin Booker and Yannick Gonsalves, escorted by Amira Madison. It was another successful event.

On Tuesday the winds returned with torrential rains in the evening with enough April showers to last for the remainder of the month. Temperatures were back in the low 30s on Wednesday morning. The weeping willows are beginning to bud, but the daffodils are definitely taking precedence this month.

Aquinnah town employees and community members gathered on Friday evening for a delicious potluck feast in honor of Marjorie Spitz retiring after 29 years (30 years, as you know how accountants round off every figure) as town accountant. Adam Wilson was the emcee for the evening, thanking Margie for her commitment to the town. Jeffrey Madison thanked Margie as well, as he had hired her during his term as a selectman. She was presented with a beautiful rocking chair with a floral designed pillow covering for many enjoyable hours of relaxation. Her college degree was in theatre arts, so we have decided to bring back the enchanting and ever-so-entertaining plays that were once performed in the town hall. It was an evening of reminiscing, especially among the baby boomers.

In case you have not noticed, 7a has reopened for the season. Dan Sauer and Nonie Madison have several new specials on their menu board but there is nothing like their Liz Lemon. For now they are open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Sundays. This week, Dan has been in Providence, R.I., preparing one of his specialties.

In addition to Skyler Cameron playing Peter Pan and Violet MacPhail as a Never Never Land child, their siblings also were part of the Peter Pan production. Riley Cameron was the stage manager and Olive MacPhail assisted at the snack bar during the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School play on April 5.

Sandra Squires sent a note regarding the Gay Head Light campaign that recently received a $10,000 grant from the Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard. “The money will fund the recently completed geotechnical survey and testing activities that will help with determining the best relocation site for the historic Gay Head Light.”
