Senior co-captain Jeremy Alley-Tarter and freshman Livy Smith turned in winning performances Tuesday as the track and field squads traveled to Attleboro for the Eastern Athletic Conference championship meet. Alley-Tarter turned in a 1:57.6 in the 800-metre run to take first place. Smith picked up a victory in the 100-metre high hurdles with a time of 16.7 seconds, a feat particularly impressive since she only started running the event midway through the season. She was also second in the 400-metre low hurdles (68 seconds) and in the high jump (4’11”).

Both the boys and girls teams took third place at the championship meet, after a “close race for second,” according to head coach Joe Schroeder. Perennial track powerhouse Bishop Feehan ran away with first place on both sides, while Somerset Berkley took second.

Though league competition is finished, the track squads will continue their season as they prepare for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association division three meet in two weeks. Complete EAC meet results are available online at mvgazette.com/blog/sports/the-replay.
