A memorial service and potluck celebration of life for F. Patrick Gregory begins at 4 p.m. today at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury.

The Rev. Cathlin Baker of the West Tisbury Congregational Church and the Rev. Father Michael Nagle of the Good Shepherd Parish will lead the services. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share.

Mr. Gregory was fatally shot on a remote hiking trail in northern California on the morning of May 16. He was hiking with a friend in the Sacramento River Bend Natural Outdoor Area at the time. His friend was also shot and survived. The suspect remains at large.

The Vineyard remains in a state of quiet mourning over the loss.

Mr. Gregory was the West Tisbury town moderator for 23 years, and he owned Educomp, a computer and art supply store in Vineyard Haven. He had previously taught mathematics at the West Tisbury school and was a soccer coach and referee. His wife, grown children and grandchildren survive him.

The West Tisbury town hall and library will close early today for the service, and the regularly scheduled Wednesday selectmen’s meeting has been moved to Thursday. The Chilmark town hall also closes at 3:30 p.m. today.
