The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School has received a $14,000 grant from the state for its health assisting vocational program.

On May 30 the state announced $1.3 million in grants through the Vocational Opportunity Challenge, which provides one-time funding for purchasing equipment for new or expanding vocational programs and “encourages and strengthens partnerships between school districts and related industries and institutions of higher education by offering innovative educational programs to support a range of career fields to prepare the next generation of skilled workers,” a press release said.

This round of grants went to 34 programs, including the health assisting program at the regional high school.

The high school’s vocational program offers several courses of study, including horticulture, automotive and culinary. The health assisting program, which prepares students to work in health care fields, is the high school’s newest vocational program and began as an introductory course last fall.
