Eighth graders from the Oak Bluffs and Edgartown Schools will hold an afternoon of debates on Friday, June 13 beginning at noon at the Oak Bluffs School.

The two schools created teams with students from both schools. There will be six debates, each scheduled to last 35 minutes. The audience votes for the winner.

Debate topics are mandatory vaccinations, digging for oil and natural gas on preserved land in the Arctic, unionized student athletes, banning dissections in K-12 schools, nationwide minimum wage and banning plastic bags on Martha’s Vineyard.

Approximately 65 students will participate as the culminating activity of their eighth grade year.
