They came, they saw, they collected their well-deserved reward. On Monday night the best and brightest of the Vineyard assembled at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs for the unveiling of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine’s 2014 Best of the Vineyard contest.
The awards, chosen by magazine readers, honor the finest business establishments, places and events. This year’s contest was the biggest yet, with more than 60,000 ballots cast in 87 categories, ranging from best summer event to best lobster roll.
The Net Result was a big winner in the seafood category, reeling in three first place awards for best seafood restaurant, fish and chips and fish market. Offshore Ale also picked up three awards, for best bar/pub, family dining and year-round restaurant. The Green Room carted home first place plaques for best men’s clothing, shoes, women’s clothing and surf shop.
In upsets this year, Gerry Yukevich unseated long-time winner John Lamb for the title of best doctor. Bangkok Thai beat out runner-up Giordano’s for best takeout.
More than 400 people attended the party at Dreamland, another record for the competition.
The celebration featured music by DJ Shizz, a Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company clam chowder bar, Bad Martha Beer, and door prizes. John Tiernan, co-owner of the Dockside Inn in Oak Bluffs, walked away with the grand prize: a $1,000 gift certificate to C.B. Stark, a men’s watch from C.B. Stark, 24 gift certificates valued between $25 and $50 each and subscriptions to the Vineyard Gazette and Martha’s Vineyard Magazine. Event sponsors included WCAI, Comcast Business, Bad Martha's Beer and Smart, creators of electric cars.
