Union Chapel welcomes back Reverend Susan Sparks from New York city this Sunday, July 20.

A trial lawyer, turned stand-up comedian and Baptist minister, Rev. Sparks is America’s only female comedian with a pulpit. She has been described as a cross between Nancy Grace, Joel Osteen and Ellen DeGeneres.

After 10 years as a lawyer moonlighting as a stand-up, Rev. Sparks left her practice and spent two years on a solo trip around the world, including working with Mother Teresa’s mission in Calcutta, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and driving the Alaska Highway. Upon returning home, she entered Union Theological Seminary in New York city where she earned a Master of Divinity and wrote an honors thesis on humor and religion.

She is currently the senior pastor of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church in New York city. She is also a professional comedian, touring nationally with a rabbi and a Muslim comedian in the Laugh in Peace Tour.

Worship begins at 10 a.m. with an organ prelude at 9:40 a.m.

The Union Chapel is located at the end of Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs, at the intersection with Kennebec and Narragansett avenues.
